My
Dear
Mother
I
reached
here
safe
and
sound
Wednesday
morning
about
1
oclock
A.M
.
having
been
delayed
in
Vicksburg
all
afternoon
and
all
night
in
consequence
of the
[Pargouds]
continual
stoping
I
should have been here
Tuesday
you
know
and was
subject
to
being
demerited
for
absence
but have
arranged
it
satisfactorily
with
Dr
.
Waddel
.
I
left
Pa
in
Vicksburg
dressed
in his
new
suit
as
well
as
usual
as
regards
health
; he
expected
to be there
probably
a
week
,
I
felt
for him as
V
is
such
a
poor
place
to
remain
so
long
.
I
presume
you
heard
that the
boat
on
which
26
bales
of the
Buckmeadow
cotton
was
shipped
recently
at
New
Orleans
the
firm
thereby
gets
$90
dols
pr
bale
for
it
as
it
was
issued
for that
amount
.
When
you
write
tell
me
all
about
the
wedding-
I
mean
Miss
Baglys
I
have to to
get
this
mailed
so
good
bye
Your
Affectionate
son
Fred
P.S
.
I
will
write
you
a
long
letter
very
soon
.
I
only
consider
this a
hasty
note
to
let
you
know
I
have
made
my
advent
safe
, and
am
in
my
usual
health
.
I
have
written
in a
great
hurry
in
order
to
get
it
ready
for the
mail
.
