Transcription	University, Miss Jan., 6th 1871 My Dear Mother I reached here safe and sound Wednesday morning about 1 oclock A.M. having been delayed in Vicksburg all afternoon and all night in consequence of the [Pargoud�s] continual stoping I should have been here Tuesday you know and was subject to being demerited for absence but have arranged it satisfactorily with Dr. Waddel. I left Pa in Vicksburg dressed in his new suit as well as usual as regards health; he expected to be there probably a week, I felt for him as V is such a poor place to remain so long. I presume you heard that the boat on which 26 bales of the �Buckmeadow� cotton was shipped recently at New Orleans the firm thereby gets $90 dols pr bale for it as it was issued for that amount. When you write tell me all about the wedding- I mean Miss Bagly�s I have to to get this mailed so good bye Your Affectionate son Fred P.S. I will write you a long letter very soon. I only consider this a hasty note to let you know I have made my advent safe, and am in my usual health. I have written in a great hurry in order to get it ready for the mail. F.
