Gov Alcorn called upon Coz Annie in W Ccty The last day of the year My own darling Boy and nature is pouring out a flood of tears perhaps of repentance for sins of the past year. Have we not some sins too that might call forth the penitential tears? Some little act of meanness, selfishness or hasty words spoken or ingratitude to our Heavenly Father for life and Helping daily [illegible word] upon us. Oh these little sins- How much harder to avoid than larger ones- �To keep the inside of the platter clean- well I turn over this clear unblotted page. as I hope to do on the morrow by [illegible word] of you and wishing our precious Boy A happy new year and that the mist of difficulty between his [illegible words] and [illegible word] may cool away and leave all bright and clean. Yours acknowledging receipt of Pa�s letter containing $25.00 was received yesterday and I suppose [illegible word] you have [illegible word] containing your Christmas gift $5 00 which I wish you to invest in some little keepsake from your dear Ma I fear you will be disappointed about the Box as we cannot obtain eggs here. But as soon as we can even in if a month I will send you up something to munch on. I was entirely alone on Christmas day. Servants out and poor Pa is at the store now from early morn until 10 o�clock at night much disappointed at the now appearance of Mr. [Vorhies] who he expected a week ago. MR. W�s manners improved considerably and Pa misses him especially now so much outside business to attend tot. The [Cotton] is picked and I expect will all be ready for shipment next week. We had two and half splendid hogs from plantation the most of which I concocted into sausage and [illegible word] Mr. Thompson and Annie (who returned from W. City looking splendid) spent an evening with me last week think their claim will be allowed in reduced state. Poor [illegible word] House was burned to the ground last week. caught fire about 12 oclock P.M. and burnt so slowly that I cant imagine why it could not be put out. No insurance and on the 15th had made the last payment. Was talking to Lanier about insuring that morning. Pa insured our house for 3 months before our trip to V.G. Lizzie B.- [illegible word] her position at G_c so her Ma gave me to understand. Judge Montgomery Sister Mrs. Barnes is coming here to live adieu no more �till next year from your loving Ma. Sarah G. Barnard Pa would give in love did he know I was writing notre fils
