My
dear
Ma
Time
has
winged
another
week
and in a
rapid
flight
brought
me
to
another
Sabbath
of
my
existence
within
the
classic
walls
of,
probably
,
my
future
Alma
Mater,
and as the
morning
dawns
dark
and
[lowering]
banishing
with its
humid
ether
, the
sweet
and
delicate
perfumes
that the
soft
and
gentle
breezes
of
lovely
spring
but a
few
days
ago
,
wafted
from the
new
born
blossom
and
tender
herb
into
my
aerial
window
,
my
mind
,
instinctively
reverts
to the
circle
of
loved
ones
at
home
, as
well
the
joy
and
pleasures
that have been in
[illegible
word]
that
sacred
and
much
cherished
abode
.
I
suppose
ere
long
you
can
, with
comfort
,
draw
four
chairs
on to the
front
gallery
and
regale
yourselves
of the
[picturesque]
and
antique
scenery
just
opposite
Fauburg
Canon
the
booming
lake
whose
glassy
surface
is
now
and then,
disturbed
by
some
joyous
water
fowl
that
skims
the
deep
from
side
to
side
in
high
born
glee
at the
sport
or
perhaps
you
behold
with
deeper
meditation
and
interest
the
old
,
tottering
buildings
that are
interspersed
through
the
thick
cottonwood
trees
and
which
seem
to
linger
as
monuments
to the
pristine
splendor
and
prosperity
of
our
little
villa
, in
some
of
which
,
particularly
one
,
you
remember
to have
spent
many
pleasant
hours-
all
might
bear
the
inscription
[Troja
Ilium
fuit]
I
assure
dear
Ma
I
was a
little
disappointed
this
week
at the
non
receptance
of the
[illegible
word]
letter
,
especially
as
I
have been
anxiously
looking
for
some
money
as
I
am
almost
entirely
without
shoes
and
owe
for
board
and
washing
.
I
have a
due
regard
for the
paucity
of
currency
at the
present
time
and
wish
to be as
saving
as
possible
but
now
I
am
in
actual
need
.
Day
after
day
passes
on, not
much
occurring
to
mar
the
peace
and
tranquility
of the
College
or to
change
the
usual
routine
; the
students
will
once
an a
while
catch
a
dog
or an
unafending
bovine
and
append
a
fire
ball
to his
tail
; or in
[illegible
word]
disguise
serenade
the
Profs
with
Jews
Harps
and the
beating
of
pieces
of
tin
; but with those
exceptions
all
is
quiet
. And
now
let
me
thank
you
for, and
recompense
you
with
my
best
love
,
once
more
for the
nice
box
. With the
greatest
love
to
all
.
I
remain
yr
.
devoted
son
