My
Dear
Son
,
feeling
this
morning
that
you
must
need
a
little
money
to
pay
for
your
board
I
will
herein
enclose
thirty
five
dolls
in
currency
.
You
say
to
your
Ma
in
your
last
that
you
have
some
Books
to
get
the
amt
sent
will
pay
your
board
&
leave
you
the
amt
you
say
the
books
will
cost&
pay
your
wash
bill
.
We
are
all
pretty
well
only
have
bad
colds
.
Your
Ma
has had a
bad
time
of
it
for the
greater
part
of
two
months
past
. A
very
bad
cold
which
has
caused
much
pain
but she
is
much
better
now
.
still
has
pain
her
side
tho
she
goes
about
the
house
There has been a
good
deal
of
Pneumonia
about
here.
Willie
Blackman
died
on
last
Friday
night
of
it
his
family
in
great
distress
.
Capt
Pilcher
took
his
remains
to
New
Orleans-
George
Smith
is
still
very
low
.
Col
[Young]
nephew
died
to
last
week
&
niece
very
sick
.
We
are
all
about
her
progressing
about
as
usual
in the
spring
with
our
work
for a
new
crop
.
Many
people
however
are
backward
.
We
are
quite
well
advanced
are
ready
to
plant
our
corn
but
fear
it
is
too
soon
. The
River
is
still
low
&
lower
than any
person
recollects-
navigation
is
now
open
to
all
ports
above
&
you
mail
send
your
letters
by
mail-
We
were
very
much
pleased
on
receipt
of
your
last
letter
, to
read
the
encouraged
spirit
your
manifested
therein
,
persevere
that
is
the
spring
which
will
bring
any
[illegible
word]
mind
into a
[illegible
word]
existence
.
I
have
only
intended
to
send
you
the
money
this
morning
and not to
write
long
as
I
only
stop
to
do
this on
my
way
to the
mail
therefore
you
will not
look
for any
big
things
.
I
know
your
ma
keeps
you
well
posted
as to the
occurrences
of
neighborhood
&
it
would be
folly
for
me
to
restate
them-
Your
Ma
now
comes
up
and
says
give
[illegible
word]
a
world
full
of her
love
and
so
with hers
you
may
have a
big
pile
of
your
Pas
,
Affectionately
your
Father
S.P
.
