My
dear
Mrs
.
Thompson
Your
letter
of the
26th
ult
was
duly
received
and
I
cannot
express
to
you
my
utter
surprise
of the
sad
truth
of
my
dear
brother
Samuels
death
.
It
was
indeed
a
great
shock
to us
all
.
We
had
no
intimatation
of his
illness
tho
in his
letter
home
in
April
he
spoke
of not
feeling
well-
we
little
thought
of
it
being
anything
of a
serious
nature
. His
afflicted
family
have
my
deepest
sympathy
indeed
I
sometimes
think
the
close
trials
of this
life
are
almost
too
hard
to
bear
and if
it
was not for the
comforting
thought
that
we
will
meet
again
in that
beautiful
home
beyond
such
separations
would
crush
us.
You
speak
of
sister
Sarahs
delicate
health
.
I
fear
it
will be
too
much
for her
frail
strength
but
I
hope
for the
sake
of her
son
she will
make
the
effort
to
bear
this
affliction
that
God
in his
providence
has been
fit
to
send
upon
her.
It
is
a
real
comfort
to
think
that
our
dear
brother
in his
last
moments
had
such
kind
friends
to
administer
to his
wants
and
soothe
his
afflicted
family
in their
great
sorrow-
I
thank
you
and
your
husband
both
Mrs
.
Thompson
for
your
kindness
to them and
may
I
ask
you
not to
forget
poor
Sarah
&
Fred-
they will
need
your
sympathy
.
I
will
write
to
Sarah
very
soon
.
Please
give
her
my
warmest
love
and
tell
her she
claims
my
thoughts
many
times
during
the
day
. With
many
many
thanks
for
your
kind
letter
and
expressions
of
sympathy
I
am
very
sincerely
yours
Emeline
B
.
Mitchell
