prudent
for
times
are
hard
Pa
has had
no
clothes
this
winter
but will
get
some
on
way
down
.
I
just
tell
you
this
over
[illegible
words]
Your
loving
Ma
Sarah
G
.
Bernard
Providence

Imagine
,
My
dear
dear
boy
(man)
a
bright
coal
fire
with a
large
table
in
front
,
your
Pa
at
one
end
busy
inviting
contacts
while
I
at the
other
side
,
visiting
to the
loved
student
in
our
[illegible
word]
room
, and the
bright
lamp
illuminating
yet
all
is
not
bright
for the
son
is
wanting
to
give
brilliancy
to
light
up
the
dark
corners
of
our
hearts
Your
letter
to
Pa
was
duly
received
but
constant
company
has
prevented
me
writing
my
weekly
.
Mr
.
Decker
returned
and with his
wife
Vicksburg
pursuing
her
claim
against
the
government
and
Dr
.
Butts
spent
a
few
days
. He has
gone
again
to
try
to
get
something
to
do
and
Anna
returned
to
Mrs
.
Montgomerys
last
week
Mrs
.
Bagley
spent
several
days
and on
Monday
last
Mrs
.
Owen
[Snoddy]
and
Bob
Bagley
who
said
tell
Fred
he
must
come
up
when
he
comes
home
.
Old
Mrs
.
Owen
requested
her
love
to
you
said
you
were a
favorite
of hers.
Lizzie
B-
was also here and the
usual
amount
of
message
with
much
love
was
implored
to be
sent
to
you
.
Liz
and
Bob
had a
[round]
as
customary
but the
former
seemed
gloomy
from
some
cause
I
have not
called
on
Mrs
.
Vail
Montgomery
yet
have
really
had
no
time
. They were
married
on
Friday
morn
dont
you
think
they were
courageous
to
stand
on
lifes
journey
on that
ill
fated
day
?
Vail
was
due
in
Vicks
on
Sunday
but
could
not
get
a
boat
to
stop
til
Thursday
Mrs
.
Judge
seems
delighted
with his
gal.
As
soon
as the
house
on
Island
is
fixed
they
go
themselves
.
Mr
&
Mrs
.
[Frellsen]
are
going
to
live
in
Ed
Williams
cottage
, they
board
at
Mr
.
[Egatleys]
have been here
several
times
.
Egelby
has been
compelled
to
go
into
liquidations
and
is
selling
at
cost
for
cash-
as
I
sent
you
the
papers
.
Monday
I
presume
Pa
will
go
to
Orleans
last
of
week
to
make
business
arrangements
for
carrying
our
planting
.
You
can
write
for
[illegible
word]
but
darling
be Will
give
you
no
[several
illegible
words]
you
will
perceive
the
sad
calamity
that has
befallen
poor
Mrs
.
[Raugh]
her
home
in
ruins
.
Ed
Willson
is
recovering
slowly
from
pneumonia
at
Le
Mays
poor
Frank
Fitzgerald
has
paid
the
debt
of
nature-
telegram
received
last
week
of his
death
.
Molly
Blackman
was to have been
married
on
26th
last
month
(and
I
presume
