I am seated to inform you
of my return to Oxford in fine health
and spirits; thinking that you would
like to learn my condition after be-
ing jolting about by the stage for
some fifty or more miles. Being
but four passengers, James Walton
and myself rode together in our
stage, & consequently slept the greater
portion of the night. We were only
disturbed once, & that was when we
were called upon, by the driver, to
assist in pulling the stage off one
of the horses that had fallen down."
