I have forgotten whether or not
I have written you from this place: at
any-rate I have a leisure moment and I pre-
fer spending it in this way. We have been here
some four days- have our lines all up and
everything moving smoothly on. I have been very
well, with the exception of a little spell at
Lynchburg, & some cold that I am yet troubled
with. I like the life much better than I
expected- have been driving frequently, & can
now stand my hand with the best of
them,- am use to the fatigue of carrying arms
and walking,- will soon be as hardy as a
mule. We dont know when we shall have
a fight, if at all. Many think we may meet
the enemy at any time. - in my own opinion
we will not fight soon - and if we do not
fight by the 4th July, I believe that some pro-
posals of peace will be made by the Federal
