I leave here this evening (Sun-
day); will stop at Grenada one day - and will be
at Pickens Station Tuesday morning [Send] to
the depot for me Thur. I have bought Sister
a pair of [?] at $10.00 - can get them here
at $5.00 in Tennessee money. I cannot find
any bleached domestic in town. Bagging can
be had at 40cts per yd. Some of the boys from
my regiment have just returned and give
startling reports of the mortality in the
regiment. Col Sidden mortally wounded. Lt Col."
Butler dangerously wounded and fell into
the hands of the enemy. Maj. Evans killed
on the field. So you see we have lost our
entire chain of field officers. In my
company out of 17 who went into the battle
of Sharpsburg 14 were killed and wounded
one of the Lt's lost an arm, the other was
wounded in the arm. I will tell you
more when I get home. Mollie looks
charming, and would make me promise
