Dear
Wife
"
I
embrace
the
presant
opportunity
of
writing
you
a
few
lines
to
let
you
know
how
we
are
gitting
along
and in
answer
to
your
letter.)
I
have
just
received
a
letter
from
you
which
gave
me
great
satisfaction
to
hear
that
you
was
all
well
for
it
is
the
first
line
I
have
received
from
home
since
I
left
.
I
wrote
to
you
when
we
left
Grenada
and
we
have been
traveling
ever
since
untill
yesterday
we
touched
this
place.
"
We
came
to
Jackson
Tenn
and from there to
Union
Citty.
"
Stopped
one
day
and
night
then to
Collumbus
whare
we
stayed
about
four
days
and
left
thare
on
Christmas
day
came
back
to the
state
line
station
then
traveled
afoot
thro
the
rain
and
mud
tenn
miles
to the
New
Orleans
and
Ohio
Rail
Road
took
the
cars
and
came
up
here
about
eight
miles
from
whare
we
struck
the
road.
"
Camp
Boragard
is
in
Brayson
County
Ky
and in
about
60
miles
of
Paducca
and
we
are
looking
for an
atact
each
day.
" But
I
do
not
think
that there
is
much
danger.
"
We
are
well
at this
time
with the
acception
of
Bad
colds.
"
Jonathan
has been
complaining
for
some
time
with
horse-ness.
" But
I
will
try
to
take
care
of the
Boys
.
Jonathan
is
out
on
guard
duty
tonight.)
The
Boys
are
all
ways
at
thare
post
and
never
complain
of
performing
and
duty
that
is
required
of
then.
"
We
have
about
2500
men
at this
place
all
from
Mississippi
and
I
think
that
we
will be
very
hard
to
whip.
"
Our
time
is
very
near
half
out
and
you
may
look
for
me
home
at that
time.)
I
did
not
sell
my
horse
at
Grenada
and
I
let
Major
Duncan
have him to
ride.)
I
would
like
to
send
you
some
money
but
I
have not
receive
a
Dollar
since
I
left
. If
you
need
any
write
to
me
and
I
will
try
and
send
you
some
if
posable.
"
We
are to
send
50
men
out
of
our
Ridgnent
tomorrow
on a
scouting
party
towards
Paducca
and if there
is
any
thing
of
importance
takes
place
I
will
write
immediately.
"
Write
to
me
again
as
soon
as
you
to
get
this and
let
me
know
all
the
news.
"
Direct
your
letters
to
Camp
Boragard
Ky
to the
care
of
Capt
Savage
2nd

thousand
)
"
I
want
to
see
you
and the
children
worse
than
I
ever
did
in
my
life
if
I
could
only
be with
you
all
a
day
or
two
and then be
back
here
again
without
the
trouble
of
parting
from
you
it
would be a
sourse
of
great
satisfaction
to
me
but
I
will not be at
home
until
my
sixt(y)
days
are
out
for
I
came
out
for the
purpose
of
doing
my
country
all
the
servises
that was in
my
power
and
I
am
deternined
to
do
my
duty
as
far
as
I
can.)
It
is
now
nine
o'clock
and
I
am
gitting
sleepy
sow
I
will
close
my
letter
trusting
to
providence
that
things
may
sow
turn
out
that
we
may
meet
again
in a
short
tine.)
I
want
you
to
pray
for
my
and the
boys
for
we
have
need
of
all
the
prayers
that
we
can
have for there
is
a
gradele
of
wickedness
in
camps
but
I
try
not to
pertake
of
it
any
more
than
posable
Show
this
letter
to
Mother
and
Pop.
"
Marcellus
is
as will
(sic)
and
seems
to
enjoy
him
self
as
well
as any of us
sow
