In my reminiscences of Gettysburg, in last Sunday's Times-Democrat, the ""princely fellow and favored son of the Eleventh Mississippi, the first to arrive on a
litter" was Jere Gage. His body is buried where he dated his letter - "On the Battlefield""
- and, I trust, will ever re-maine: for the field of Gettysburg is his monument."
