Dear Sister Em-"
I do not know what day of the month it is nor would I what day of the week only it rains so hard that the negroes do not go to church so I see them around dressed in their holiday costume. we are having dreadfully dreary weather but it very warm. I never heard such a chattering of blackbirds as we have had here continually for a week. it seems like spring weather only the cotton is not gathered in yet. I have written to father since my arrival here but do not know as I wrote him where to direct so I will tell you now for fear I will forget it this time. West- Point, Miss and I shall expect a letter soon for none of you had written for some time before I left Athens and you know a letter is like an oasis in the desert to me so far away from every body.
