can not read it myself but it is after eleven at night and every body is in bed. so with a hasty love to all that means yourself & William & regards from the Gen. before he commenced snoring & a kiss from Tom-I will close. tell Nell I will write her soon & many thanks to you both for your interest. I will write father soon too. I think it was the first letter he had written me in nearly two years.)

Dear Sister Em-"
I answer your very welcome letter by return mail or that is by ours which is twice in a week. You bad thing you. what business had every body in finding out my confidential letter to mother. has Mr. Clark mentioned it yet from the desk. I am terribly mortified not because you know it as you know I always tell you every thing almost but it was a secret with Lucy and myself. I had said so much about going home to spend the summer that I knew something must be done so I gained courage to write to Mother as she was an old married woman I knew it would not shock her.
Well I have decided to go if nothing prevents but when I have no idea as I shall keep on the look out for company as the Gen. can not possibly
