West Point June 22nd"
Dear Sister"
I recd the letter you wrote me by Mrs. Livingston little more than a week since. I am looking for her to return now as I understand Mr. S. is Marshal for this district.
This letter is the first I have recd from you but it seems you have had better success. The communication between here and Memphis will be open in a week or two but I do not know how soon the mail line will be established. The boys are all at home again now: Maddie and her baby are both dead. she never was able to name it. we got a negro woman as wet nurse but the little thing never seemed to thrive. he was the least bit of a child you ever saw. smaller than yours if possible. He died just six weeks to a day after Maddie
