Dear
Margery
"
I
embrace
the
present
oportunity
of
writing
you
a
few
lines
to
let
you
now
how
we
are
getting
along.
"
Jonathan
is
still
sick
but
we
are at a
private
house
and with a
very
clever
familly
thare
name
is
Swift
and
I
believe
that
Mr
.
&
Mrs
.
Swift
are as
clever
people
as
I
ever
saw.
"
Jonathan
is
considerable
better
this
morning
and
I
have
very
strong
hopes
that he will
get
well.
"
I
was
entirely
out
of
hart
untill
yesterday
but he has
underwent
a
great
chaing
since
yesterday
morning.
" He has been
very
bad
for
about
13
days
and the
Doctors
all
give
him
out
and
told
me
that they
could
not
give
him
anything
that would
do
him any
good
and that
I
would have to
nurse
him the
best
I
could
but that
thare
opinion
was that he was
compeled
to
die
if his
constitution
was not
sufficient
to
over
come
the
fever
But
I
thank
god
that
thare
opinion
to
all
aperances
was not
correct.
"
I
intend
to
send
him
home
as
soon
as
I
think
he
is
able
" and
I
think
that he
is
now
pretty
well
out
of
Danjer
Sow
you
must
make
yourself
as
easy
as
possible
for
I
am
determined
to
use
all
of
my
energy
for his
recovery
and
when
I
get
home
I
can
tell
you
anything
which
I
have not
room
to
write
.
Myself
and
Henry
are
tolerable
well
at
presant.
"
Henry
has had
several
chills
but has not had any
now
for
several
days
and
is
tolerable
well
at this
tine
with the
acception
of
bad
cold
which
is
very
common
at this
time
in
camp
.
Our
Ridgment
was
ordered
to
Collumbus
and
out
of
700
men
we
had
only
250
able
for
Duty
the
Balance
being
sick
,
thare
is
a
gradele
of
sickness
in
camps
the
Balance
of
our
men
who
was not
able
to
gow
to
Columbus
left
yesterday
for
Jackson
Tenn
,
so
thare
is
not any of
our
men
here but
myself
and
Jonathan
and
Henry
about
forty
four
of
our
men
went
to
Collumbus
and the
rest
to
Jackson
,
thare
has not been any
Battle
at
Collumbus
yet
but from the
best
information
it
is
expected
any
hour
,
times
look
squally
here and
I
think
that
our
boys
will have a
chance
to
get
a
fight
and
all
that
I
have to
regret
is
that
I
have not an
oppertunity
of
being
with them for
I
do
not
like
the
idia
of
returning
home
and not
being
in a
fight
if
it
has to
take
place
,
our
time
will be
out
in
about
10
days
and
I
then
expect
to
come
home
but if
my
helth
will
permit
I
expect
to
join
again
if
I
can
git
in a
company
that
suits
me
.
Thare
has been
several
deaths
in
our
Ridgment
but
none
in
our
Company
and
none
that
is
danjrous
unless
traveling
on the
open
cars
.
I
have but
little
paper
and will have to
close
my
letter
by
saying
to
you
and
all
of the
connexion
not to be
uneasy
for
I
will
do
the
best
I
can
under
the
cercumstances
.
Tell
all
my
friends
and
connexion
howdy
for
me
sow
farewell
untill
we
meet
again
Pray
for us and
kiss
the
children
for
me
.
