Dear Sister,
I suppose the world will go on marrying & giving in marriage until the end of time and by the time this letter reaches you Eleanor will not be Chap-in but Chap-man. it is the latter part of the name I suppose that was so taking now if I had to go to W.S. vestry to be married I should not have sent out invitations. why did she not quietly walk into church at home have Mr. Dickinson perform the ceremony and go on home with her old man. you have not told me whether he was farmer or what his occupation was. I think her dresses are very suitable and nice. Eleanor is a good girl and no doubt will take good care of the old gentleman. I do not like to draw [illegible] comparisons nor do I have any feeling but joy that the �old times have passed away and all things have become new.� Do you remember about twenty two years ago when we had no money to buy decent clothes and invitations were out of the question.
