I again write to let you know I am still alive & well and [so] is my mess we have had fine weather all along til the last few days but it has snowed & looks very dreary at present there has been four snows here but none more than an inch deep we may not expect to see anything else for the next two & half months we have no exciting news in camps although we have a telegraphic dispatch announcing the death of Gen Mclelland yet it is not credited not being confirmed I have not received a letter from you in a month & a half yet I suppose you have written me for I believe if you were sick that you would have gotten some one to write me I think of making application for furlough about the 15 of this month yet I have no hopes of any success as there is a probability of an attact here this winter as the yankes have not gone into winter quarters yet they have given up Messrs Mason & Slidell & say they will wipe out
