Dearest wife I embrace the present to write you we are in tolerable health there are say from ten to fifteen cases in each company but they are only bad colds we will remain here a few days longer and we will then go to Richmond or Harpers Ferry but I do not know which Old Abe has moved his head quarters to Filadelphia but he has a large army at Washington it is thought here that there will be blood shed at harpers ferry before the last of this week but I think not we may have a battle on the Patomac in the course of a month or so but that is doubtful we had a dress parade this evening it was a beautiful sight to see one thousand men all in uniform and marching to the same steps we have plenty to eat in camp but it is very strong diet which you know does not suit my constitution but I am doing well I make a little do me I bought two candy apples which I send to my two little babies tell them that I sent it to them you are doing well I hope if not write
