My Dearest Wife
Your highly appreciated, Much-wished for letter bearing date of 28th came to hand on 27 This by 16th day of my confinment I hope it will be my last as my attournys McGarr & Smeed informed me yesterday morning that they had procured bond for me to have city limits but could not come home for a while to get out of a prison cell is a great source of releif but would it not be more so to come home for the last week has been rather dull careworn & despondey as I expected to have been out a week ago, rainy, dull, expecting to hear from home daily was a heavy burden but I am all fresh anew & alive today, I would have answered your letter sooner but have been a little unwell for last three days was quite sick yesterday have taken cold these sudden changes I was suffering with a severe cold & headache but as good fortune would have it one of thoses Kind ladys I must call her a hevenly angel the first lady that I have spoken to since I left
