Vicksburg Miss May 1st 1869
Dear friend
The charges against me was pretty heavey as well as I can recolect Nick left the lot gate key at the time that Mr Ged B was was lifted Alex & Greer was with me at the time My white family was all home, & I am not certain but I
think Miss M_ Fry styed with Leon that night
positively, I am not certain as to where I was, but I know
one thing certain that I went to Batesvill the next day
or at least on Saturday & heard of it & I never tryed
to recolect anything about it until after the first
boys was taken off and as I owned a Pete Mule
I begin to think because I was at Dr. Walls the night
you & I went to town together and we was talking about
the affair & where we was on said night the charges
was not read to me but as well as he (Col. Bose) could recolect
was the same as the other boys but from Nick &
Old Em Manuvers I think I am charged with the Bell Perry
case, and think when the thing comes up that will be in
See Wall and tell him to bear in mind the circumstance
of his being at my house that night on a sick call
& if tis brought against me I shall have Dr. Pain
