Dear
Margery
"
I
again
after
a
hard
days
fatigue
at
9
o'clock
sit
down
to
rite
you
a
few
lines
to
let
you
know
how
we
are
gitting
along
in
camp.
"
We
had an
election
today
in
our
camp
to
supply
the
vacancy
occasioned
by the
election
of
Capt
.
Duncan
to
Major
in the
second
Ridgment.
"
Lt
.
Savage
was
elected
captain
of
our
company
which
made
the
1st
.
Lt
.
place
vacant.
"
I
then
ran
against
Lt
.
Crossley
for that
which
resulted
in
my
election
to the
1st
Lts
.
place
in the
company.
" The
elections
all
went
off
very
well
and the
company
all
appeared
to be
very
well
satisfied
with the
election.
" A.
L
.
Mayhugh
was
elected
3rd
.
Lt
. in
my
place.
"
Myself
and the
boy(s)
are
well
and
harty.
" But
I
want
to
see
you
all
very
bad.
"
Just
got
moved
out
to the
Pidgment
today
and
I
think
we
will be
much
better
situated
here than
we
have been
since
we
got
to
Grenada
for
we
were
badly
crowded
in a
house
ever
since
we
got
here
until
this
evening.
"
We
have
some
five
or
six
sick
in
our
company
but
none
danjerous.
"
I
do
not
know
when
we
will
leave
but
when
I
can
ascertain
I
will
rite
to
you
immediately
and if
I
can
find
out
that
we
will
stay
here any
length
of
time
I
will
try
to
come
home.)
If
I
should not
git
to
come
home
I
want
you
to
try
and
take
the
best
care
you
can
of
yourself
and the
children.
"
Margery
I
want
you
to
try
and be
religious
.
teach
the
children
to
love
and
fear
God
and if
I
should
never
more
see
you
I
want
you
to
try
and
train
the
children
up
in the
best
manner
you
can.
"
I
want
you
to
pray
for
me
and the
boys
for
I
feel
that
I
need
the
prayers
of
my
friends.
" The
Lord
only
knows
what
is
to be
our
lot
. But
God
being
my
helper
I
intend
to be a
better
man
than
I
ever
have
been.
"
We
have
prayers
in
camp
every
night
and
we
have
pledged
ourselves
to
keep
it
up
and
I
think
will have a
good
effect.
"
