Camp near Lewisburg Tennessee
Sunday morning May 3rd, 1863
Dearest Sallie, You will see from the heading of this letter that we have moved our camp, we moved out from Shelbyville last Monday some 4 or 5 miles and hadn't been there but a few days until we reed' orders to come here. We started Friday night about 9 or 10 o'clock and marched till about 2 and then slept till daylight and came on here yesterday about 10 or 11 o'clock We have stopped about 3 miles this side of Lewisburg - turned off the road to the right about half a mile and camped on the bank of a creek. We have a very pretty camp ground, but there is no telling how long we will stay here. They say we are sent here to support Van Dorn and I expect he will have us running all over this country in a few days. He is over at Columbia about 20 miles from here and whenever the Yanks get too hard for him, we will have to go to his assistance. Our brigade is all that came yesterday, I heard that 3 brigades were coming, but haven't seen any but ours yet. We may have some fighting to do pretty soon, I can't tell. They say the Feds have been
