Transcript	Camp near Goldsboro, N.C Feb. 4th , 1863 Dear Sister , I have waited long and patiently for a letter from you and have concluded that my first letter was probably misplaced, and you have never received it. Therefore, I will try to write again. I received a letter from Sister M. last week and answered it immediately. Since then I have looked in every mail for a letter from Brother James or you. I do not think I ever wanted to hear from home worse in my life. I have written to everyone who I thought would answer my letters, but still no answers come. I will still continue to write whether any come or not. I am determined to make some one write to me. I want you to understand I do not accuse you of neglecting to write, for I know you too well to think that you would not answer my letters. My health is very good, but I am still troubled with the wound in my side, which is still very sore. I have a great notion of applying for another furlough on it. Hugh is now applying for one, I have great hopes of his obtaining it, as our Gen. (French) is granting a great many just now. His health is very good. We are having some very disagreeable weather now. The snow is a foot deep all over the ground. When I began to write my ink was frozen and my hands feel now more like a huge icicle than a portion of my body. So you must excuse the scribbling. There is no indication of a battle in this portion of our country, but I am truly glad ot if, for I have no desire to be in another battle. Our little naval victory at Charleston is very cheering. Our men seem to think that we will soon be able to make the enemy feel our strength in the water if we can only make some headway against them on the ocean, we can easily fan out his legions. Both armies at Fredericksburg seem to be completely stuck in the mud, so that neither can assume the offensive if they wished it. Joe Hooker who is in command of the Yankee forces there will try his steel as soon as possible. I truly hope he will meet with the same fate that his predecessors have. It is said Gen. E. Kir by Smith is going to assume command of this department. I h ope it is so. I know scarcely anything about the man who has now command of us, only that he drinks too much liquor. Have you got one of my mules on the place now. If you have not, you had better keep one of them. I want you to have one anyhow. Let me know when you write. Write to me as soon as possible. Where is Jim Alford? I have now heard a word from Billy Gray and do not know whether he has received his clothing or not. I hope he has. Give my love to all. Yours fraternally, R. C. Bridges Feb. 5th I did not mail my letter yesterday and have concluded to write some more this morning. Hugh has obtained his furlough and will leave for home today. I will send my letter by to Hazlehurst, where he will mail it. I also send by Hugh fifty (50) dollars in Confederate money, a part of that borrowed from Brother James when I left home. Please send it.to him as soon as you receive it. I am keeping one hundred (100) dollars for my own use. We have no news this morning, only that we will probably leave here today. Our wagoners have orders to hold
