Dear
Mother
As
I
did
not
get
to
send
my
letter
yesterday
so
I
thought
I
would
write
a
few
lines
more
this
day
again
finds
us
all
well
troops
are
still
passing
down
the
Wilmington
road
I
think
that a
fight
at that
point
is
inevitable
and those
who
pretind
to
know
something
about
the
times
say
that the
Yanks
intend
to
make
an
attack
on this
place
and
Wilmington
both
at the
same
time
this
is
a
very
important
point
if they
take
Goldsboro
they will have the
supplies
from
Richmond
the
road
forks
here
one
leads
to
Raleigh
the
other
to
Richmond
it
is
reported
that
we
have
orders
to
leave
but
it
may
not be
so
. If
we
leave
here
it
is
thought
that
we
will
go
to
Kinston
a
small
town
twenty
five
miles
below
this on the
[Neuse]
River.
"
Well
Ma
we
received
those
clothes
were
verry
glad
to
get
them
I
was
about
out
of
socks
another
thing
I
was
about
to
forget
there was a
weding
in this
place
a
few
days
ago
and
you
could
not
guess
who
it
was
it
was
Mr
.
William
Cotton
and
Miss
Parsy
Vernon
She
is
a
real
Tarheel
of
