8 HASKINS & SELLS January News Items Mr. Forbes was honored recently by the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants in recognition of his service in the advancement of accounting in California and elsewhere in the country. The honor was in the form of the creation of a fund to be known as the "John Forbes Gold Medal Fund." This fund will be used to purchase a medal annually to be presented to the accountant who passes the State examination with the highest average. Mr. Forbes also has been reappointed recently as president of the California State Board of Accountancy. We regret that, due to illness, Mr. Stephen C. Blanchfield, of the New York report department, is unable to continue as beneficiary of the Elijah Watt Sells Scholarship at New York University School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance. Mr. Frank E. Patka, also of the New York report department, has been designated the recipient of the scholarship for the remainder of the academic year. The scholarship consists of the income from the Elijah Watt Sells Scholarship Fund, established in 1924 as a memorial to Mr. Sells by his sister, Mrs. John H. Bovard. Mr. James D. Scott, of the Seattle office, is to be congratulated upon passing successfully the November, 1927, C. P. A. examination of the State of Washington. Mr. J. Harold Stitely, of the Charlotte office, also is to be congratulated upon his success in passing the North Carolina C. P. A. examination. Mr. Wildman addressed the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants at a meeting in Chicago on December 13, 1927, on the subject, "Classification of Accountancy Services." Mr. Wildman also addressed the Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Cost Accountants on December 15, 1927, on the subject, "Balance Sheets and Operating Statements." Mr. Rossetter was appointed chairman of the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants' Committee on "The Natural Business Year." Mr. Rossetter is also a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants' Committee on "The Natural Business Year," of which Mr. James A. Councilor, of Washington, D. C , is the chairman. Mr. W. M. Trant, manager of our Denver office, recently was elected a director of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. PRESS OF WILLIAM GREEN, NEW YORK
