Mr. Forbes was honored recently by the
California State Society of Certified Public
Accountants in recognition of his service in
the advancement of accounting in California
and elsewhere in the country. The
honor was in the form of the creation of a
fund to be known as the "John Forbes Gold
Medal Fund." This fund will be used to
purchase a medal annually to be presented
to the accountant who passes the State
examination with the highest average.
Mr. Forbes also has been reappointed recently
as president of the California State
Board of Accountancy.
We regret that, due to illness, Mr.
Stephen C. Blanchfield, of the New York
report department, is unable to continue
as beneficiary of the Elijah Watt Sells
Scholarship at New York University School
of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance.
Mr. Frank E. Patka, also of the New York
report department, has been designated
the recipient of the scholarship for the remainder
of the academic year. The
scholarship consists of the income from the
Elijah Watt Sells Scholarship Fund, established
in 1924 as a memorial to Mr. Sells
by his sister, Mrs. John H. Bovard.
Mr. James D. Scott, of the Seattle office,
is to be congratulated upon passing successfully
the November, 1927, C. P. A.
examination of the State of Washington.
Mr. J. Harold Stitely, of the Charlotte
office, also is to be congratulated upon his
success in passing the North Carolina
C. P. A. examination.
Mr. Wildman addressed the Illinois
Society of Certified Public Accountants at
a meeting in Chicago on December 13,
1927, on the subject, "Classification of
Accountancy Services."
Mr. Wildman also addressed the Detroit
Chapter of the National Association of
Cost Accountants on December 15, 1927,
on the subject, "Balance Sheets and
Operating Statements."
Mr. Rossetter was appointed chairman
of the Illinois Society of Certified Public
Accountants' Committee on "The Natural
Business Year." Mr. Rossetter is also a
member of the American Society of Certified
Public Accountants' Committee on
"The Natural Business Year," of which
Mr. James A. Councilor, of Washington,
D. C , is the chairman.
Mr. W. M. Trant, manager of our
Denver office, recently was elected a
director of the Colorado Society of Certified
Public Accountants.
