On June 3 last Michael N. Chetkovich retired
from Deloitte Haskins & Sells, the firm with which
he had been associated for twenty-six years and
led as managing partner for the past eight years.
His rise within the firm was paralleled by
recognition on the part of his professional peers
of his abilities and accomplishments. In October
1976 Mike was named chairman of the American
Institute of CPAs. Long interested in the
international aspects of the accounting
profession, he was chosen to be the AICPA
representative to the International Coordination
Committee for the Accountancy Profession when
that group was formed in 1972.
In June of last year Mike was honored by the
University of California at Berkeley School of
Business Administration, his alma mater, which
presented him with the Centennial Award. This
award is given only once every hundred years by
each of the various schools of the university to
outstanding alumni. Only a short time ago it was
announced that Mike, who with his wife Alice will
be returning in the fall to his native California,
has been appointed to a Regents Professorship
for the winter term at the University of California.
The appointment, considered one of the most
prestigious at the school, is awarded to distinguished
practitioners in various fields.
In addition, in June Mike was presented with an
honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by Pace
University in New York City, and was named to
receive the 1977 award of the Alpha Kappa Psi
Foundation.
Effective July 1, he became a member of the
Board of Directors of the American Reinsurance
Company of New York City.
In April the firm's Policy Committee presented
Mike with a resolution approved and signed by all
members of the committee. It might be fair to say
that the resolution, reproduced on the facing
page, says more about Michael Chetkovich and
how he is seen in the eyes of his friends and
peers than any amount of biographical data.
