CPA
EXAMINATION
NOVEMBER
1963
Haskins & Sells is pleased to congratulate
the more than 100 staff accountants
from 30 domestic offices who successfully
completed the CPA Examination
in November 1963. An additional 400-
plus members of the staff sat for the
examination, and most of them completed
parts of it. The passing record
of those who used the Firm's CPA Examination
Study Guide was about 35
per cent better than the record of those
who did not.
Sixteen of the successful candidates
are from the Los Angeles Office, a new
record for a single office. Los Angeles
had set the old record at 15 in the May
i960 examination and tied it the following
May.
Twenty-three of the successful candidates*,
from states permitting all four
parts of the examination to be taken at
once, passed the entire examination at
first sitting. Three of them were among
the ten candidates who received Honorable
Mention for the Elijah Watt Sells
Award of the American Institute of
CPAs: John B. Henriksen, Jr. (San Francisco),
William H. Smith, III (Boston),
and Ronald H. Uthe (Honolulu).
Mr. Henriksen received a BA degree
in 1961 from Rollins College, where he
majored in mathematics and business
and served as Treasurer of his class. He
earned an MBA degree from Stanford
Graduate School of Business in 1963.
Mr. Smith has a BA degree from Yale,
where he majored in economics and
was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. When
he graduated in 1962, he stood in the
top one per cent of his class. Following
graduation, he completed the eight-week
accounting course sponsored by
the Firm for liberal arts majors at the
University of Illinois.
Mr. Uthe attended Albany (New York)
Business College before going on to the
Wharton School of Finance and Commerce,
U n i v e r s i t y of Pennsylvania,
where he majored in economics and
graduated in 1962 with a BS degree.
While serving in the Navy in t h e Pacific
area he visited Hawaii and determined
to make his home there.
The Firm takes special pride in the
distinction they bring to Haskins & Sells.
