Successful Candidates in the
CPA Examination November 1977
Of the three hundred and fifty-two DH&S staff accountants in the U.S. who
successfully passed the November Uniform CPA Examination, eight received
special recognition for their outstanding performance. Seven of the eight staff
members were awarded Elijah Watt Sells certificates of honorable mention from
the AICPA. They were among the seventy-one accountants honored for taking
and passing all four sections with the highest grades. The eighth staff member,
Marc Crespi of the Philadelphia office, received the Alexander E. Loeb Silver
Medal for scoring the second highest grades in the State of Pennsylvania.
Honored by both the state society and the AICPA, Linda Conley, a senior
assistant in Charlotte, scored the third highest in the State of North Carolina on
the exam. Linda received a BA in political science from East Carolina University
and her MA in public administration from North Carolina State University. Her
graduate work in accounting was completed at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
She is active in both the National Association of Accountants and the North
Carolina Association of CPAs. She joined DH&S last November.
Senior assistant Bob Dickinson, Kansas City, scored the second highest
grades in Missouri. He, too, received state and AICPA recognition. After serving
two internships with the Kansas City office while in college, Bob became a
full-time staff member last September. He received a BS in business
administration with high honors from Rockhurst College in Kansas City.
Emma Guerra, Miami assistant, scored the second highest grades in Florida on
the exam and received a silver medal from the Florida Institute of CPAs along
with her Sells certificate. Emma holds an AA degree from Miami Dade
Community College and a BS in business administration from Florida
International University. She was elected corresponding secretary for the
Honorary Accounting Society at FIU, and is presently active in the American
Society of Women Accountants.
Bob Kirby, an assistant accountant in the San Francisco office, also received a
Sells certificate. He graduated from Golden Gate University with an MBA in
accounting in September of 1977. He holds a BA in psychology from the
University of Illinois and studied journalism at the University of Michigan before
joining the army in 1971. He is a member of the National Association of
Accountants.
Jeff Lawyer, an assistant in Orlando, scored the highest grades in Florida on
the exam and received the gold medal from the Florida Institute of CPAs in
addition to the AICPA citation. Jeff graduated from Daytona Beach Community
College in 1975 with high honors and then continued his education at Florida
State University in Tallahassee, where he graduated summa cum laude in
August 1977 with a BS in accounting.
Gary Mendoza, an assistant accountant on our Los Angeles staff and Sells
award winner, graduated magna cum laude from Claremont Men's College in
June 1977. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and accounting.
A member of the Portland small business services staff, Carol Stearns scored
the top grades in Oregon on the exam, for which she received a state award and
her Sells certificate. Carol has a BA in Spanish from Willamette University and
studied accounting at Portland State University. She worked as an accountant
for an individual practitioner for almost five years before joining us. Carol is a
member of the Oregon Society of CPAs and the local Accounting Aid Society.
Philadelphia assistant Marc Crespi, honored by the Pennsylvania Institute of
CPAs for the second highest grades in the state, was a scholarship student and
summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of
Business Administration. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a
master's in business administration.
