1A to9tal o7f 2655 H& S people passed the Uniform
CPA Examination held last May.
Four of the group earned honorable mentions
for their grades on the examination, while three
of the four achieved the highest grades in their
respective states.
Honorable mentions were awarded to Charles
D. Byers, Jr., a staff accountant with our
Greensboro office; Carolyn T. Coatoam, an
assistant accountant with our Cleveland office;
Jane M. Iizuka, a member of the Los Angeles
office audit staff; and Thomas R. Popple well, a
member of the Houston office staff.
Charles Byers scored the highest grade in
North Carolina on the CPA examination. After
graduating from Princeton University in 1968,
Charles served four years with the Air Force,
then earned an MBA from Harvard University
before coming to H&S in June 1974.
Carolyn Coatoam, who finished first out of
1,300 candidates taking the CPA exam in the
State of Ohio holds a BS degree from the
Garfield Senior College division of Lake Erie
College in Painesville, Ohio, as well as a BA in
psychology from that school.
Jane M. Iizuka scored the highest grades of all
candidates taking the CPA exam in California.
She attended the University of Southern
California on a state scholarship, graduating last
June with a BS degree. Miss Iizuka began with
H&S in July 1975.
Tom Popplewell earned a BS and Masters
degree in accounting from Rice University. He
began interning with the Houston office in May
1974 and became a full-time member of the staff
in June of 1975.
