Two hundred and fifty-nine accountants from
seventy H&LS offices across the country completed
the Uniform CPA Examination held last May.
Of that number, three staff accountants were
named by the American Institute of CPAs to
receive Elijah Watt Sells certificates of honorable
mention for outstanding performance on the exam.
These were Donald Horacek of our Los Angeles
office; Joy Kary, with our Portland office; and
Stephen Renberg, a member of the Nampa office
staff.
In addition to the Elijah Watt Sells certificate,
Don Horacek also was awarded the John E Forbes
Gold Medal by the California Society of CPAs for
achieving the highest average of those taking the
exam in the state of California.
A total of 41,457 candidates sat for the May 1976
examination, and of that number only seventy-one
individuals achieved scores high enough to earn
the certificates of honorable mention from the
AICPA.
Don, a summa cum laude graduate of California
State University at Northridge, received his BS
degree last June and joined the Los Angeles office
the following month. He was a member of the
Accounting Association while at CSUN, and was
the recipient of the association's 1975
scholarship award. Don also was a participant in
the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
program.
Joy, the winner of a National Merit award and
other scholarships, received a BS in business
administration from the University of North
Dakota last May. Although she worked her way
through the university, she still found time to be a
member of Beta Alpha Psi and a board member
and treasurer of the Collegiate Volunteer Services.
Joy began with our Portland office in August.
Stephen joined the Nampa office in June after
graduating summa cum laude with a BS degree
from the University of Idaho. He served as a
missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in Chile from June 1971 to
June 1973.
