Two hundred and fifty-three H&S staff accountants representing
eighty-nine offices across the country successfully
completed the Uniform CPA Examination given
last May. Five were recognized for outstanding performance.
They were Marian C. Altschul, Cleveland; Paul
D. Bodinizzo, Boston; Roberta K. Byrum, Birmingham;
Gary M. Smith, Los Angeles; and Mark O. Zenger,
Seattle.
Four of them—Marian, Paul, Gary and Mark—
received Elijah Watt Sells certificates of honorable mention
from the American Institute of CPAs for their
grades on the exam. Three of the five accountants had
the added distinction of being honored by their state
societies.
In addition to the Elijah Watt Sells certificate, Marian
was also awarded the Ohio Society of CPAs gold medal
for scoring the highest grades in Ohio. She received her
AB in literature with high honors from Cornell University
in 1958, her MA in history from Johns Hopkins
University in 1961 and in recent years has been studying
accounting in a graduate program at Case Western
Reserve.
Paul, winner of a silver medal from the Massachusetts
Society of CPAs in addition to his AICPA citation,
graduated with an AB from Georgetown University in
1976 and one year later completed the MBA program
with high honors at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst.
As an undergraduate, Paul was a teaching assistant in
the economics department, prepared tax returns for
Alexander Grant 6k Company and was a consultant
with the Executive Tax Service. At the University of
Massachusetts Paul was a teaching fellow for a course
in financial accounting and became a member of the
1976 summer faculty at American International College
in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is an active member
of the National Association of Accountants and the
American Accounting Association. Paul joined H&S
last July.
Gary joined the Los Angeles office in June, shortly
after he graduated magna cum laude from the University
of Southern California with a BS in accounting. He was a
staff sergeant in the Air Force from April 1971 to April
1975. He worked for a year in the Los Angeles office of
Touche Ross before coming to H&S.
Mark also joined our staff in June of this year. He has
the distinction of being one of the twenty-four students
selected to participate in the first Firmwide summer-internship
program, started in 1976. He is a 1977
graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a BBA
in accounting. In recognition of his excellent grades,
he received both the 1976 AAA Arthur H. Carter
scholarship and the 1977 H&S Foundation Award.
Mark is a member of the American Accounting
Association.
Roberta received a certificate for the highest grade on
the examination in the State of Alabama. She graduated
magna cum laude with a BBA in accounting from
Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama in December
1976 and joined H&S shortly after graduation.
