Sir:
Been informed by different ways of the Party of the British as a guard for the Cutters and very easy to be taken. I made arrangement with Capt. Willmott who as always brave officer was anxious, too, to put in execution the expedition as fast as possible for fear that they should not change the situation. Yesterday in the night I went with thirty-six men to join at the Cut with Capt. Willmott's party consisting of fifteen and six militia. I desired him that he should send some of the militia to have three or four Boats ready at the Oyster's Bank opposite to John's Island in case of the retreat that we should have two way. We past over the Cut and I send the Wadets at three different landings to stop the given information., after
