Pine Ridge, Miss., May 17, 1862
To Planters, Citizens and Others of the States of Louisiana and Mississippi.
You are perfectly and fully aware now that the enemy is upon you, and you are hereby authorized and commanded
To Destroy all COTTON
When liable to be seized by the enemy, without further orders or notice from this office.
Any person who suffers any Cotton to fall into enemy's [their] hands, commits and act of INFIDELITY against the Confederate States, for which he will be held accountable.
They will also remove or destroy all
SUPPLIES of Any KIND,
HORSES, MULES, CATTLE, STOCK of any description, including Corn, Provisions, etc., under similar circumstances.
